Megpályázzuk a csoportba kerülésért megrendezésre kerülő minitorna házigazda- szerepét.
Az Atomerőmű KSC Szekszárd idén is ezüstérmes lett a női bajnokságban (története során harmadszor), vagyis ismét kiérdemelte a jogot arra, hogy Euroliga-selejtezőt játszhasson. Először 2017-ben próbálkoztunk, akkor a francia Montpellier nyerte a párharcot, egy évvel később a szintén francia Villeneuve bizonyult jobbnak két mérkőzés után. Harmadszor is megpróbáljuk, de talán most lesz a legnehezebb, hiszen a török Kayseri és a romániai Sepsiszentgyörgy elleni minitornán kell élen végezni ahhoz, hogy sikerüljön bekerülni az elitligába… Erről Szabó Gergő ügyvezető beszélt.
„A klub pályázni fog a rendezésért, tudomásunk szerint a másik két klub is ezt teszi. Bízunk abban, hogy sikerül elnyerni a pályázatot, azért is, mert a járványügyi helyzet Magyarországon talán a legjobb Európában. Emellett ugye hazánkban jelenleg a nézők is látogathatják a sportrendezvényeket védettségi igazolvánnyal. Az ellenfeleinket jól ismerjük, de a nyáron eléggé kicserélődtek a keretek. A török csapat kerete még nem végleges‚ s tudomásom szerint a szentgyörgyieké sem. A Sepsi véleményem szerint erősebb lesz, mint az előző szezonokban. Nem lesz könnyű feladat, de a cél egyértelműen a csoportkörbe kerülés. Sok múlhat a sorsoláson is, mert szerintem nem mindegy, hogy melyik napokon játszunk.”
A pályázatokat augusztus 13-ig kell leadni, a minitorna szeptember 21-től 23-ig tart, körmérkőzéses rendszerben dől el a továbbjutás (csak az első helyezett kerül be az Euroliga csoportkörébe). Várhatóan a korábbiakhoz hasonlóan ezúttal is buborékban kerülhet sor a rendezvényre. A sorsolást augusztus 19-én tartják.
Fight for the Euroleague!
Our club will apply to be the host of of this season’s Euroleague qualifying tournament.
After Atomeromu KSC Szekszard finished second – for the third time in our history – in the Hungarian league in the last season, the club earned the right to participate in the women’s Euroleague qualifying. It is the third time we try to get into the group phase of the most prestigious cup in Europe: at first, we met with France’s Montpellier back in 2017, but we lost in a two-legged affair. Next time, a year later, we run into another French club, Villenuve, and we came up short again. This autumn we will try again, but most likely it would be the toughest of all, because now the format changed to a three-team mini- tournament with Turkish side Kayseri and Romanian Sepsi in the group. We caught up with our executive Gergo Szabo, who shared his views with us.
„We would go for it, we will apply to be the host of the mini-tournament, so as the other two clubs as I learned. We are optimistic about our chances, specially because the health issues and situation on Covid-19 in Hungary is probably the best in Europe. In addition supporters who have vaccination card can attend sport events in Hungary at the moment, which could be divident. We know our opponents well, altough their squads changed a lot in the summer. In my humble opinion, Sepsi probably would be stronger than in the recent years. It is going to be tough, a real fight, still our goal to get into the group-phase. The draw would be huge, a factor, because it really does mater on what day we should play.”
Application deadline is 13th of August, while the mini-tournament will be held between 21-23rd of September. All teams play each other ones and only the winner of the group will qualify. Presumably the event must be held in a hub with strict Covid-19 conditions, like the Eurocup Final Four we organised successfully in April. The draw will be made in 19th of August by FIBA.
